Your focus on collaborative problem-solving cannot be separated from the problem solvers.  I suggest you explore some issues -- do people think alike? Obviously, no...how do you recognize the cognitive diversity within individuals and harness this to solve the problems?  So much of the innovation and problem-solving work ignores 40 years of research and literature on cognitive style by people like Min Basadur or Dr M Kirton.  Collaboration must be more than getting along.  Effective use of this work leads to opportunities for cognitive discrimination -- picking the people best suited to a solve a particular problem.

Peter Grimbeek commented on the Challenge Addressing the Wicked Problems in Public Policy

A recurring observation about the public sector is that public servants tend to speak with one another when formulating policy as opposed to speaking with members and representatives of the general public. As pointed out by Lisa Geraghty, this tendency might be influenced by the lack of time and money to engage more deeply with those outside of the public service.

Hi Nick

I'm really interested in the role of education and its development - we are still developing the scope of the workshop, is there anything you would like to see included in the workshop

warm regards

Hi Paul, that's a big agenda, although I do agree that policy significantly influences the economy my best eg is Superannuation.

So, is there anything you would like to see included in the workshop which we're still developing?

warm regard

Hi Nola I've had the opportunity to work with communities in the Cape, Ipswich and Thomastown in Victoria, as well as working on policy projects, so I can begin to understand what you mean.  One of my mates runs the Puuya Foundation in Queensland and she has taught me a lot about how to engage with community.

Having said all that, we are still developing the scope of the workshop - is there any idea/method/tool/ etc that you think would be useful to include?

Hi Elizabeth that would be fantastic. We're still putting together the details of the workshop. Is there anything you believe is crucial to cover?

Hi Judy

For 3 years I have experience navigating the NDIS and it’s no easy task and impossible for people with an intellectual disability, like my daughter.

In 2013 we’ve attended many public forums and I urged the policy makers to make the system simple (user friendly AI), so anybody can us it.

From my observation and experience, the people who need the system the most had no voice.

I strongly believe if you want to design good public policies we need to work better together and invite the community to participate in designing it.

I’m interested in hearing more about your thoughts.

HI Tim

I wrote my PhD on this topic - about why consumers adopted smartphones. It turned out to be about value creation. Find what the customers value and deliver that to them ie solve their problems.

My PhD became a value theory of innovation. Online at: https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.680002

The 20pp summary is at: https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.7376879.v3

See a visual outline at: https://kumu.io/areff2000/innovation-and-value-creation#innovation-and-value-creation-thinkers It brings together thinking in economics, marketing, management and sociology.

HI Amanda - Aboriginal people have 80,000 years of practice in collective verbal problem solving.  I believe our systems and strategies would bring a wonderfully unique approach to workshops about how we developed and became experts at collective mindset lifestyles and communication techniques.

Take care

Nola
