Does Scale Really Translate To Impact?
In recent years there has been a fetishisation of the idea of 'scale'. This has potentially stopped many businesses realising what impact that they could have had.
The Impact Investment movement did not scale simply because someone said 'I want to scale this'. It was the inspiration - the ripple effect. The scale was a result of seeking to create true impact, not the other way around. There is an endless list of things which have gone global, but not because there was a person or team sitting around thinking 'how do we scale this?'.
If you are a social entrepreneur, it is likely that you cringe at the sound of the term 'scale'. For you, it is about place and community, not ego.
So let us know, do you think that achieving scale is really impact? What actually is 'scale'? How does one achieve it?
