Thai Cave Rescue
The successful rescue of twelve boys and their coach offers inspiration on the power of humanity.
The world held its breath during the rescue mission of twelve boys and their soccer coach from a cave in northern Thailand. This eighteen-daylong rescue mission held the attention of social media and news for a considerable amount of time in an information cycle that usually moves on after a few days. The global attention begs the question of what makes the public relate to this event and if it can serve as a hopeful example in a time of division. In times of political and ideological tensions, the rescue mission quickly became a positive example of collective altruism and the importance of collaboration and the generosity of many is essential. This was no less true for the Thai rescue mission which has become a model for international collaboration. Thai authorities were supported by rescue experts and personnel from the United States, UK, China, Australia and Japan. Many local and international volunteers also helped the strenuous rescue mission. Even Elon Musk offered the innovation of his technology to help the rescue of the boys.
Humanity is a broad concept but nonetheless a powerful one when applied and matched with collaborative efforts.
However, in a time of constant information supply and 24/7 news flow about the events and tragedies of the world, it can be difficult to maintain focus on certain events for a long period. Do you agree?
